ndonesia’s delegation led by Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita is seeking to voice the concerns of developing countries in the 11th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which began on Sunday.

Indonesia will consistently fight for issues discussed in the previous conferences and the mandate of the Doha Development Agenda (DDA), Trade Ministry director general for international trade negotiations Iman Pambagyo said.

“Based on the mandate and the development of previous negotiations, several issues to be discussed include public stockholding for food security purposes and special safeguard mechanisms,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Iman added that along with other developing countries, Indonesia would particularly oversee the two issues because of their great influence on food stocks, which will be crucial for developing countries to achieve food security.

Prior to the conference, the trade minister led the meeting of the G33 Group, which comprises 47 developing countries with large populations of smallholder farmers, in a bid to consolidate their position on agricultural issues.

Other issues affecting Indonesia that will be deliberated in the conference are, among others, agricultural and fisheries subsidies.

The meeting, which will run until Dec. 13, will also initiate general talks upon issues such as trade and services, e-commerce, investment facilitation and small and medium enterprises.

Indonesia is set to be involved in drafting a joint ministerial declaration, especially on gender-related trade and fossil fuel subsidies. (fny/lnd)
