The EU-funded trade related assistance program (EU-TRA2) continues to build Papua New Guinea’s capacity in the analysis, negotiation and use of regional trade agreements.
In delivering the project, the program recruited Niel Joubert an expert, to develop and deliver a training module on the legal analysis of regional trade agreements and PNG’s trade commitments in line with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and regional trade agreements.
The training was delivered to PNG’s government officials and other stakeholders in conjunction with the Department of Trade, Commerce and Industry’s trade division at a three-day workshop in Port Moresby recently.
The objective of the workshop was to build the capacity of PNG’s trade negotiators as well as other stakeholders involved in the negotiation of trade agreements, particularly in the legal analysis of trade agreements at the multilateral and regional level.
This will ensure the country is able to take advantage of its commercial potential for growth and development in ongoing and future trade negotiations.
The EU-TRA 2 program includes assistance in the areas of trade institutional reform, trade policy and trade facilitation providing technical assistance and quality infrastructure and equipment to Papua New Guinea.
