Following trade wins, what’s next from Trump Administration?

A more promising trade outlook begs the question, “what’s next?”  for the Trump Administration.

The President has notched two significant wins this month with the signing of the Phase One trade deal with China and Congressional ratification of the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement.

Trump plans to sign USMCA during a ceremony at the White House Wednesday, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says ratifying the agreement is his “very first priority” this year.  Mexico has already ratified USMCA.

The White House now seems to be setting its sights on India.

Minnesota Ag Commissioner Thom Petersen tells Brownfield it’s encouraging that President Trump plans to visit that country in the coming weeks.

“If you look at where the population is going to grow, India, Nigeria, North Africa. We’re really spending a lot of time hosting groups from those countries that are looking to buy.”

Ag Secretary Perdue is visiting members of the European Union this week.  The U.S. has also said it hopes to strike a bilateral pact with the United Kingdom once Brexit is finalized.

And President Trump is zeroing in on the World Trade Organization.  He’s requested a meeting with top WTO officials to discuss what he calls “very dramatic changes” to how the governing body operates.
